Kmart are modernising and optimising our end-to-end supply chain systems and operations to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, deliver a safer working environment for our team and faster delivery of products that delight our customers to nearly 500 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. 

 

We are creating the next generation of retail supply chain technology with be a focus across our warehouse management, transport/logistics, inventory optimisation, and demand and forecasting systems.   

 

As a Senior Engineer you will leverage your technical expertise across various functional and technical areas to develop and deliver robust solutions. You will participate in the architecture and design of large systems, work with cloud technologies, and mentor junior engineers to foster their growth. Your deep understanding of application programming, API development, and system design will be crucial in delivering high-quality outcomes.

 

What you’ll be doing?

 

  • Develop and maintain high-quality code, with a primary focus on Java Spring Boot and Docker.
  • Design scalable integrations and APIs, ensuring they meet expected outcomes and quality standards.
  • Automate the delivery of cloud infrastructure and applications.
  • Utilise advanced knowledge of continuous integration and application release automation concepts, frameworks, and tools.
  • Engage actively in Agile methodologies, participating in SCRUM and/or KANBAN ceremonies, and utilizing tools like Jira.
  • Work extensively with AWS and related cloud technologies to enhance application performance and scalability.
  • Implement event-driven architecture using Kafka to create responsive, scalable systems.
  • Collaborate with tech leads and architects on large solution designs, performing trade-offs and articulating ideas to gain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Focus on designing platforms that consider the end-to-end customer experience.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their development and enhancing team performance.

 

To be successful in the role you’ll have:  

 

  • Minimum 5 years of proven proficiency in more than one programming language, with a strong emphasis on Java Spring Boot & Docker.
  • Advanced programming knowledge and a track record of writing high-quality code.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud technologies, specifically AWS.
  • Excellent understanding of continuous integration, application release automation, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong knowledge of system architecture with the ability to perform trade-offs and articulate decisions effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders and influence product owners, delivery managers, and architects.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments, particularly with SCRUM and/or KANBAN techniques.
  • Ability to design and implement solutions independently.
  • Hands-on experience with Gradle, GitHub Actions, and Terraform is a plus.
  • Experience working in retail, supply chain, or logistics verticals is an advantage.
