What you’ll be doing   

 

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be responsible for the research, development and design of product within our Beauty range. You will deliver trend steers, work on fabric and material insights and be able to deliver on tech packs to make everyday living brighter for our customers.

 

This is a seamless role across both Design & Packaging, as Beauty is all about the vessel or componentry and the ‘packaging’ style guide that is applied to each Beauty range.  Key part of this is creating and rolling out style guides that hit the target market, are on trend, enhance the Beauty brand and really deliver a ‘must have’ product that our customers just want to have and cannot leave on the shelf.  Amazing on trend products at amazing prices!

 

Identify, interpret and implement global and market trends to grow sales through great looking everyday product for a relaxed lifestyle, articulated through effective communication (visual and verbal) and a high level of presentation skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Trend Forecasting

  • Identify, interpret and implement trends using global trend and market research to add value through design and sales in line with Kmart handwriting.
  • Visually articulate and effectively communicate the direction for the season.
  • Present trend forecast effectively, including research to support trend.
  • Maintain strong aesthetic taste and have an eye for the next trend that is commercial and can be bought in volume.

Ranging

  • Collaborate with and influence the merchandise team to create commercial, customer focused, co-ordinated product ranges that best reflect Kmart’s handwriting and taste level.
  • Have the ability to negotiate commercial product outcomes with the Merchandise team.

Product Development

  • Create desirable and affordable products that are in line with Kmart’s handwriting that are unique to the external market.
  • A thorough understanding of product materials and construction.
  • Develop product offshore with KAS sourcing and KAS design.
  • Ability to work confidently, and autonomously with key stakeholders in merchandise and design/ including KAS design.
  • Develop commercial product within cost structure that is fit for purpose.
  • Create visual presentations to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Create accurate and effective technical specification drawings/production art to deliver desirable samples and ultimately customer on floor experience.
  • Brief and provide effective feedback to enable the KAS design team to deliver on key metrics such as print, colour, pattern and product.
  • Effective time management of workload and ability to plan and prioritise.
  • Identify, interpret and implement global trends.

Leadership

  • Strong alignment and advocacy to company strategy and vision.
  • Strong alignment and advocacy to “better product at lower prices”, including handwriting and taste levels.
  • Work with team and stakeholders to align handwriting and taste levels within departments, across RBU and across Kmart.
  • Constantly strive to improve product, process and culture.
  • Proactively solve problems in simple ways that are aligned with Kmart strategy.

Compliance

  • Adhere to Kmart’s Intellectual property requirements and processes.
  • Create products that are family friendly and in line with Kmart’s values.
  • Accurate and timely adherence to critical path and production processes.

About You

You will be an experienced Designer with experience working in Beauty.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Lead and drive the creative vision of the Beauty department / portfolio
  • Engage, influence and seamlessly collaborate with the Beauty merchandise team
  • Perform in a fast-paced office environment across a portfolio that is extremely trend driven that aligns to a fast fashion model
  • +5 years specifically in the Beauty Industry with a thorough understanding of packaging, design, componentry and graphics
  • Ability to forecast and implement a commercial and broad appeal trend

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities/Technology Used:

  • Highly proficient in illustrator and photoshop.
  • Intermediate to advanced use of software such a Rhino, 3D Studio Max, Solid works (Industrial Designer only).
  • Technical skills related to the area of product development across fabric, materials and construction knowledge.
  • Ability to create accurate technical specification drawings.
  • Transferable skills and ability to adapt to product types for general merchandise design.
  • High level of aesthetic taste displayed in relation to colour, composition, materials, coordination and execution.
  • Ability to develop product that is appealing to the target customer.
  • Solid knowledge of print types and limitations within print execution.
  • Previous experience building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong influencing skills with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

 

Mandatory Formal Education/Qualifications e.g. CPA

  • Undergraduate, tertiary or equivalent degree in, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Textile Design or Footwear
