Join the team
As our new Apparel Technical Designer in Kidswear, you will lead the day to day operational & performance of technical fit and Prototype development within our Childrenswear category. You will do this by being responsible for providing a technical support function – providing a high level of technical advice & expertise to support the Better Product Kmart Strategy.
This is an exciting time to join our team (with great internal processes and systems) as we start to embrace 3D technology!
What you’ll be doing
As the Technical Designer in Kidswear working for Kmart some of your key responsibilities are (but not limited to):
- Work closely to support our Apparel Technical Design Lead & ensure any business critical topics are raised in a timely manner
- Partner with Design teams and Merch to develop Kmart products in alignment with production standards, product aesthetics and brand DNA.
- Liaise with KAS Product Technologists to support through the sample approval process
- Partner with Design team on prototype/production tech pack development
- Partner with KAS 3D teams to deliver best in class patterns to deliver the Kmart Better Product Strategy
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
We're looking for an analytical, and proactive team member who will bring an agile & practical mind-set as well as a passion for all things Retail! You love sharing your technical expertise within apparel, customers are always front of mind and building and managing relationships with a variety of key stakeholders is one of your strengths.
We'd also love you to have:
- Proven experience within Babywear and Kidswear – ideally within a big box retail environment
- Extensive hands-on experience within apparel product development, manufacturing processes and supplier management
- Strong knowledge with Technical Safety and compliance guidelines for Australia and New Zealand
- Product development and approval experience within a retailer or sourcing office
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Experience with developing and implementing product improvement processes
- Proven experience in fitting, sizing and Tech Pack creation within Kidswear
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge in pattern making with some experience on digital patterns is preferred
- Qualifications in Pattern Making, Pattern Grading, Garment Construction, Garment Production or similar or 3D pattern making is highly regarded
