We're seeking an experienced Senior Taxation Advisor to collaborate closely with the Head of Group Tax in effectively managing the tax obligations for Kmart Group, across Australia and New Zealand. If you're a seasoned tax professional ready to make a significant impact within a dynamic retail environment, this role offers a rewarding growth opportunity!

 

The role is currently based in Mulgrave, with a fortnightly requirement to be present in Williams Landing (or vice versa). However, commencing mid-2025, we will be relocating to a brand new site in Chadstone, where this role will be permanently based.

 

 

What you’ll be doing:

 

As a Senior Taxation Advisor working at Kmart Group, you will:

 

  • Assisting the Head of Group Tax to provide technical tax support to the business.
  • Preparing  direct and indirect tax requirements for Australia and New Zealand, partnering with multiple departments to drive proactive tax planning.  
  • Ensure the timely preparation, lodgement, and remittance of Income tax, GST, and FBT to the relevant tax authorities.
  • Assist with the preparation, lodgement, and remittance of Withholding tax, PAYG Withholding, PAYG Instalments, and FBT Instalments to the appropriate tax authorities.
  • Assist in the tax compliance processes and timely reporting obligations, liaising with the ATO, NZ IRD and the Wesfarmers group.
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks, keeping abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends to proactively address potential issues.
  • Offer guidance to business stakeholders on local and overseas tax compliance matters, leveraging support from external advisors where required.
  • Preparation and review of monthly tax effect accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Actively participate in new business initiatives and projects as required.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • A minimum 5 years’ experience in tax advisory roles, with a strong understanding of Australian and New Zealand tax laws. Familiarity in global tax regulations will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience working in a large corporate environment / Big 4 firm / ASX listed company would be beneficial.
  • Australian recognised tertiary qualification in Accounting, Law, Business or equivalent, with a post graduate qualification of ICAA, CPA or equivalent (i.e. Masters of Taxation). 
  • A self-starter who displays innovation, creativity, decisiveness, flexibility and an appreciation of alternative views.
  • Well-rounded interpersonal skills able to collaborate and problem-solving with ease.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively liaising with tax authorities, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts to diverse audiences
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy including advanced Excel and other Microsoft Office programs, analytical skills and proficiency in the use of Financial Systems use of Financial Systems  in accounting in accounting (i.e. SAP or Oracle) and tax (i.e. OneSource).
