We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative Product Designer – Technologist to create coded design system components, driving rapid experimentation and continuous optimisation of Kmart's digital experiences. This role enables fast-paced iteration and innovation by designing customer-centric components and partnering with engineers for deployment and code reviews. As a designer first, you will deeply understand customer needs and translate them into practical, scalable solutions. You will have a strong ability to bridge the gap between design and technology, creating seamless and intuitive user experiences while ensuring high quality, efficient code. Â

What you’ll be doing
Â
- Design and build coded design system components that solve real customer problems, elevate engagement, and support business outcomes through scalable and high-performing solutions.
- Lead the creation and launch of experiments using the design system, enabling quick iteration and testing of new ideas to drive continuous improvement.
- Advance our modern design approach, ensuring the design system supports innovation, automation, efficiency, and high-quality product experiences.
- Develop and implement our design system in code
- Integrate and embed our design system, fostering expertise with our Product and IT teams
- Work closely with product managers, developers, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive and effective product designs
- Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and ensure that designs meet user needs and preferences
- Work with team members to time box the prortypng of end to end solutions to quickly evolve and iterate designs to meet business and user needs
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and keep the product design cutting edge.

To be successful in this role:

 We’re looking for a forward thinking Product Designer - Technologist proficient in design engineering and automation. You should excel in connecting design and code, using tools like Figma, Storybook, and Knapsack. The ideal candidate will manage design systems integrated with no-code platforms and generative UI technologies.

We'd also love you to have:
Â
- Qualifications in Commerce, Computer Science, Innovation, Digital Design or similar
- Advanced proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript, and experience with frameworks and libraries like Next.js, React Typescript, tailwind-ui, redux, framer, headless-ui/react, and working in a Node environment
- Expertise in interaction design, rapid prototyping A/B testing along with a proven track record developing and maintaining accessible, responsive applications.
- Sound understanding and embracing of modern development practices; Agile, Lean, Design Thinking, Experimentation and their related technologies (A/B testing platforms, version control / git, es-lint, jest, cli, node, etc).
- This highly collaboratively role will require exceptional stakeholder management across cross functional teams within the business.
