Kmart’s Store Systems team plays a crucial role in maintaining and upgrading the technical backbone of our retail operations. We manage the delivery of essential systems maintenance and upgrades, including Windows Store Server, POS systems, and self-checkout operating system enhancements, ensuring that our stores remain reliable, secure, and efficient
As an Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the stability, security, and performance of these critical systems, ensuring they support seamless store trade and operations.
What you’ll be doing?
- Lead and manage engineering teams to develop and maintain high-quality store systems and applications.
- Oversee technical delivery for system maintenance and upgrades to ensure continued stability and security.
- Drive new feature development and enhance existing applications to meet the evolving needs of our retail environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business goals and objectives.
- Foster an agile development culture, ensuring best practices are followed for development, deployment, and operational efficiency.
- Champion continuous improvement through CI/CD practices, utilizing tools such as Github Actions.
- Maintain high standards of engineering excellence and ensure compliance with security and performance requirements.
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- 10+ years in software engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in a people management role.
- Proven experience in software development, with strong proficiency in engineering, best practices, system design, and development methodologies.
- Deep understanding of the retail industry, including experience working with store systems and operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a track record of mentoring and building high-performing teams.
- Hands-on expertise with the following technologies:
- Microservices Architecture and best practices.
- GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipeline management.
- SQL for database design and optimization.
- Event-based architecture for building scalable, responsive systems.
- Bash and PowerShell scripting for automation and system management.
- AWS for cloud services and infrastructure management.
- JavaScript, TypeScript & .Net
- Kafka for messaging and event streaming.
- Kong for API gateway management and service communication.
- Windows Services for creating and managing background applications.
