Are you a visionary with a passion for fashion and an eye for emerging trends? Join our team as a Designer – Trend Forecaster and help us stay ahead of the curve. Your mission: to proactively identify and interpret global and emerging market trends, influencing our design-led products to ensure Kmart remains relevant, innovative, and competitive.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

As the Designer - Trend Forcaster working for Kmart you will:     

     

  • Conduct comprehensive trend research using fashion runways, social media, consumer insights, and market data.
  • Translate findings into actionable trend reports, mood boards, colour palettes, and seasonal direction to guide buying, design, and marketing.
  • Partner cross-functionally with design, buying, and marketing teams.
  • Leverage strong visual storytelling, aesthetic judgement, and influencing skills to deliver customer-focused, cohesive, trend-forward collections that reflects Kmart brand handwriting and support sales growth.
     

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

 

  • 3-5 years of trend forecasting and implementing commercial and broad appeal trends.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Highly proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Technical skills related to product development, including fabric, materials, and construction knowledge.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Creative Thinking: Ability to envision new concepts and product possibilities.
  • Visual Communication: Ability to create compelling visual presentations (like mood boards).
  • Transferable Skills: Ability to adapt to product types for general merchandise design.
  • Aesthetic Taste: High level of aesthetic taste displayed in relation to colour, composition, materials, coordination, and execution.
  • Customer Focus: Ability to develop products that are appealing to the Kmart customer.
  • Stakeholder Management: Previous experience building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Influencing Skills: Strong influencing skills with a merchandise team.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
