What you’ll be doing


As a collaborative & driven designer, you will work hand-in-hand with our wonderful Buying team to create fantastic product that brings memorable moments into our customers lives. We are seeking a creative and skilled Designer 12 month FTC specialising in both softgoods and hardgoods for our nursery and toy product lines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in illustration, print design, and product development, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating engaging and functional products.This is such an exciting opportunity to help grow our Toys & Nursery space to it’s true potential and really have impact!
 
As a designer working for Kmart you will identify, interpret and implement global market trends to grow sales through great looking everyday product. 
 
Your day may also include:
 

  •  Trend forecasting (new product opportunities, range extensions & aesthetics – print/pattern/key icons)
  •  Range building – Collaborating with the merchandise team to build a commercial range and architecture
  •  Compliance - adhering to Kmart's Intellectual property requirements and processes
  •  End-to-end product development – Create desirable and affordable products with the customer & quality front of mind. From initial sketches to finished art, sample feedback management to final production. Including both soft goods (e.g., textiles, plush toys) and hard goods (e.g., plastic toys, furniture).
  • Create illustrations and print designs that align with our brand's aesthetic and values.
  •  Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and the QA team to ensure the highest safety and quality standards are met.
  •  Present design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders for feedback and approval
  •  Reviewing sales data is crucial for understanding product performance and making informed decisions to improve your product range


To be successful in this role:
 
We're looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual who will bring a curious mind-set and a passion for all things retail! You love delivering product, customers are always front of mind and building and managing relationships with a variety of key stakeholders is one of your strengths. 

 

We'd also love you to have:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Fine Arts, or a related field and proven experience in designing both soft goods and hard goods, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Strong illustration and print design skills.
  • High Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Excellent understanding of product development processes and materials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality products.
  • Previous experience in a product development role (toys & nursery experience highly desirable but not essential)
  • Strong ability to forecast and implement a commercial and broad appeal trend
  • Ability to create accurate technical specification drawings
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident & articulate presentation skills with strong attention to detail
