The Solution Design Lead plays a critical role in shaping how AI is designed, governed, and delivered across Kmart.  Sitting between business ambition and technical execution, this role focuses on designing scalable, secure, and reusable AI solutions that can be safely deployed at enterprise scale.

 

You’ll work closely with product, engineering, platform, and business teams to turn emerging AI opportunities into clear, production‑ready designs.  This is a senior individual contributor role with strong influence across both technology and the business.

 

What you’ll be doing 

 

  • Designing enterprise‑grade AI solutions using Generative AI, RAG, and Agentic AI patterns.
  • Translating business problems into clear architectural designs aligned to platform standards.
  • Defining reusable solution patterns, templates, and design blueprints.
  • Partnering with platform, security, risk, and governance teams to ensure responsible AI adoption.
  • Supporting delivery teams through design reviews and technical guidance.
  • Driving consistency, quality, and scalability across AI implementations.
  • Optimising performance, cost, and reliability across AI solution designs.
  • Contributing to the uplift of AI capability through mentoring and best‑practice promotion.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

 

  • Extensive experience in solution architecture, AI engineering, data lifecycle management or enterprise system design.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and deploying Generative and Agentic AI solutions at scale.
  • Strong understanding of cloud‑native architectures (AWS, GCP and Azure), APIs, and modern integration patterns.
  • Strong understanding and/or hands-on experience of designing/building MCP servers, RAG Pipelines with in-depth knowledge of key AI agent protocols such as A2A, MCP, ACP, UCP etc.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and balance experimentation with governance.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and business audiences.
  • Experience operating in regulated or security‑conscious environments.
  • Curiosity and strong learning mindset in a fast‑moving AI domain.
