Are you ready to shape the future of Stores Technology at Kmart Australia? We’re looking for Senior Engineers to join our Digital Stores team—a group powering the next generation of retail digitisation. From advanced merchandise tracking to robotics-driven inventory insights, we’re building high-impact solutions used by millions of customers and team members every day.

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and evolve the technology that powers our in‑store experiences. You’ll contribute to scalable services, modern UIs, and robust backend systems that keep our operations running smoothly. This is your chance to lead engineering excellence, influence key technical decisions, and work on products at true enterprise scale.


What you’ll be doing:

 

  • Designing and implementing full stack software solutions using React and Java (Spring Boot).
  • Building high‑performance backend services and APIs that support our in‑store platforms.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers, driving engineering best practice.
  • Delivering high‑quality outcomes using modern DevOps tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Working with AWS cloud technologies to build scalable, resilient systems.
  • Championing clean coding principles with a strong emphasis on unit testing and maintainability.
  • Leading technical design, requirements analysis, and contributing to architecture decisions.
  • Solving complex problems with strong analytical and engineering capability.
  • Collaborating with a diverse, high-performing team to deliver solutions that impact millions.
  • Driving innovation in an environment that values creativity, learning, and growth.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

 

  • Proven experience in full stack development using React and Java (Spring Boot).
  • Strong backend engineering capability with experience building scalable, reliable services.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
  • A track record of delivering software using CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Ability to produce clean, maintainable code and drive test automation.
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Strong leadership skills and an interest in mentoring and developing others.
  • Exposure to cloud environments, ideally AWS.
  • Experience maintaining existing products while contributing to new features and enhancements.
