We’re looking for a Payroll Lead to join our team on a 12‑month fixed term basis and play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll outcomes across Kmart Group.

 

In this role, you’ll take ownership of monthly pay runs, troubleshoot complex issues and lead a team providing expert support for payroll matters across the business. You’ll work closely with the Payroll Manager and a broad range of stakeholders to ensure our team members are paid correctly, every time.

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Leading the processing of monthly payrolls ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with agreements and legislation.
  • Managing payroll controls including pay run setup, reviews, corrections reporting and issue resolution.
  • Ensuring payroll compliance across weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, identifying and escalating risks as required.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for stores, P&C partners and external providers, resolving complex payroll queries.
  • Maintaining and governing payroll systems, including SuccessFactors, UKG Pro and PayGlobal, ensuring data integrity and timely updates.
  • Providing support during audits and responding to internal and external data requests.
  • Coaching and supporting team members to ensure consistent, high‑quality payroll delivery.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in payroll leading a team within a large, complex organisation, ideally in a retail or high-volume environment
  • Strong working knowledge of employment legislation, EBAs/Awards and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience with payroll systems such as SuccessFactors (EC & ECP), UKG Pro and PayGlobal.
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy, confidentiality and controls.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to confidently manage queries and resolve issues.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with experience identifying process or system enhancements.
  • A collaborative, customer‑focused approach and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
