We are seeking an enterprise-level leader to take on the role of Head of Internal Communications and Events, a critical leadership position at the centre of Kmart Group’s culture, transformation and performance agenda.

This role will set the narrative for the Group — partnering closely with the Leadership Team and brand leaders across Kmart, Target and Anko to shape how we communicate strategy, lead change, engage our teams and bring our ambition to life.

This is not a “communications delivery” role. It is a strategic leadership role accountable for:

  • The enterprise internal narrative
  • How we lead and land change at scale
  • How we connect 50,000+ team members to purpose, strategy and performance
  • How we build belief, alignment and momentum across a complex, multi-brand organisation

You will lead a high-performing team and a network of agency partners and operate as a trusted advisor to the leaders in the business.

What you’ll be doing

Enterprise Narrative & Engagement Strategy

  • Set and own the enterprise-wide internal communications and engagement strategy aligned to Kmart Group’s purpose, strategy and transformation agenda.
  • Shape the strategic narrative of the Group — ensuring clarity, consistency and impact across all brands and geographies.

Executive & Board-Level Partnering

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the Leadership Team on communication, engagement, change and culture.
  • Prepare and shape high-stakes executive communications, enterprise messaging, major change narratives and critical people moments.

Transformation & Change Leadership

  • Play a central role in landing major enterprise change — ensuring our team members understand not just what is changing, but why and how they contribute.
  • Build enterprise capability in change storytelling, leader-led communication and engagement effectiveness.

Enterprise Events & Moments That Matter

  • Own the strategy and impact of Group-wide leadership events, enterprise forums and cultural moments that shape alignment, energy and belief.

Culture & Enterprise Engagement

  • Build and sustain a high-performance, values-led culture through clear, consistent and inspiring communication and engagement strategies.
  • Drive enterprise engagement strategies that strengthen trust, clarity, accountability and connection.

Function & Capability Leadership

  • Lead, develop and evolve a high-performing internal communications and events function.
  • Build future-fit capability across storytelling, digital engagement, leader communication and change communication.

Agency & Ecosystem Leadership

  • Own the enterprise agency ecosystem and ensure world-class strategic and creative output.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • 12–15+ years’ experience in senior enterprise communications, engagement, corporate affairs or transformation roles within large, complex organisations (ASX, global, or multi-brand environments highly regarded).
  •  A proven track record partnering with Executive Leadership Teams on enterprise narrative, transformation and organisational change.
  •  Deep experience in leading communications and engagement through major transformation, scale or complexity.
  •  Demonstrated success in operating at enterprise and systems level, not just functional delivery.
  •  A strong reputation as a trusted advisor, influencer and strategic thinker.
  •  Experience building and leading high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.
  •  Exceptional judgement, executive presence, narrative thinking and stakeholder impact.
  •  The ability to operate in ambiguity, manage complexity, and lead at pace.

Benefits we’ll offer you:

  • Flexible hybrid working options through our Flex Where, Flex When, Flex Well policy.
  • A team member discount card that gives you a discount at Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Bunnings
  • Access to the Kmart for You benefits program which entitles you to exclusive discounts and benefits in the areas of entertainment, travel, lifestyle, and health – with over 60 suppliers!

  • We offer inclusive parental leave, and ongoing support offered though our partnership with Circle In for team members of all backgrounds and family circumstances
  • A dynamic learning and support program
  • Opportunity to fast track your career through our Mentor Program as a Mentee or Mentor
  • A Kudos recognition program, where you are nominated by your peers to spin a wheel, to win a stack of cool prizes
  • Great career opportunities across the broader Wesfarmers Group
