As Kmart Group continue to grow, we’re strengthening our Corporate Affairs & Sustainability function with a new opportunity for a Government & Industry Affairs Advisor to help shape how we engage with policymakers, regulators and key external stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing


As a Government & Industry Affairs Advisor working for Kmart you will:  
        

  • Support the development and delivery of stakeholder engagement strategies aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Prepare strategic plans, channel plans, briefing materials and campaign evaluation reports.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating stakeholder campaigns, including content development and timeline management.
  • Provide operational support during crisis communication activities, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely coordination.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder lists, prepare sentiment analysis reports and support engagement activities and events.
  • Monitor policy, regulatory and legislative developments relevant to the retail sector.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high‑performing team culture through knowledge sharing and active participation in team development.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and deliver high‑quality work at pace across multiple concurrent projects.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline, supported by 7+ years’ experience in government relations, stakeholder relations, external communications or a similar field.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, including how government and regulatory bodies operate.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing stakeholder engagement strategies, integrated campaigns and high‑quality written content across multiple channels.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and communication campaigns simultaneously, delivering high‑quality work at pace.
  • Experience supporting crisis communication activities, preparing accurate briefing materials and ensuring consistent messaging during critical situations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking, curiosity and innovation, with the ability to anticipate trends, identify opportunities and develop creative solutions.
  • High‑level project management capability, strong attention to detail and the adaptability to respond quickly to changing priorities and communication needs.
