Kmart’s online fulfilment network plays a critical role in getting products from our fulfillment centres to customers across Australia.  As online demand continues to grow, we're investing in the next generation of fulfilment technology to improve picking efficiency, packing performance, system reliability, and operational outcomes.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the technology stream of a major fulfilment transformation program.  Working across multiple fulfilment platforms, vendors, and engineering teams, you'll be responsible for uplifting engineering practices, delivering critical platform enhancements, and helping bring legacy fulfilment systems into Kmart's broader technology ecosystem.  This is a 14-month fixed term opportunity with scope to build and lead a growing team supporting both project delivery and business-as-usual operations.

What you’ll be doing 

• Leading engineering teams responsible for fulfilment platform enhancements, integrations, and ongoing platform support.
• Driving engineering standards, delivery practices, and technical quality across a complex fulfilment technology landscape.
• Managing the technology delivery stream for a major fulfilment transformation program focused on improving picking, packing, and operational efficiency.
• Overseeing enhancements across Warehouse Management Systems, fulfilment platforms, internally developed integration services, and vendor solutions.
• Leading teams across Melbourne, interstate locations, and Bengaluru, creating alignment across different ways of working and operational environments.
• Partnering closely with architects, product teams, operations leaders, and external vendors to deliver business outcomes.
• Managing a combination of permanent employees, project resources, and offshore contractors, while supporting hiring activity as the team grows.
• Balancing delivery of new capabilities with the stability and performance of existing fulfilment platforms.
• Driving the integration of inherited systems into Kmart's architectural standards, engineering practices, and operating model.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

• Proven experience leading engineering teams within complex enterprise technology environments.
• Strong engineering and architecture fundamentals, with experience delivering integrated systems across multiple platforms and vendors.
• Experience working with cloud-native applications and modern engineering practices, ideally within AWS environments.
• Exposure to TypeScript-based applications, APIs, event-driven architectures, and integration platforms.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across technology, operations, and vendor teams.
• Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and bringing consistency to ways of working.
• A pragmatic leadership style, balancing delivery, technical quality, and team development.
• Experience in fulfilment, warehouse management, logistics, ecommerce, or supply chain environments is highly regarded.
• Ability to navigate legacy technology environments and lead change through complex organisational and technical transformations.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of engineering leadership, systems thinking, and people leadership, with the ability to bridge multiple platforms, teams, and ways of working while delivering meaningful operational outcomes.
