With current growth across our womenswear design team we currently have exciting opportunity for a Designer – Women’s Intimates (Bras, Briefs and Socks) to join Kmart!  

In this role you will we are looking for someone with an eye for innovation and be able to demonstrate your passion for creativity to deliver a cohesive product range aligned with the Kmart product aesthetic and quality strategy. This entails working collaboratively with key stakeholders to create and deliver a customer centric product range. Identify, interpret and implement global and market trends to grow sales through great looking product, articulated through effective communication (visual and verbal) and a high level of presentation skills.


Create original, commercial, customer focused, coordinated product ranges including print and pattern/graphic design that best reflects Kmart’s ‘handwriting’ to grow incremental sales. This is executed through strong influencing, collaboration, tasteful aesthetics and eye for trend.

 Please note this is a 7mth fixed term contract.


What you’ll be doing


As a Designer working for Kmart you will:        
  

Trend forecasting

•    Identify, interpret and implement trends using global trend and market research to add value through design and sales in line with Kmart handwriting.
•    Visually articulate and effectively communicate the direction for the season.
•    Present trend forecast effectively, including research to support trend.
•    Maintain strong aesthetic taste and have an eye for the next trend that is commercial and can be bought in volume.

Product development

•    A thorough understanding of product materials and construction.
•    Develop product offshore with ANKO sourcing and ANKO design.
•    Ability to work confidently, and autonomously with key stakeholders in merchandise and design/ including ANKO design. 
•    Develop commercial product within cost structure that is fit for purpose.
•    Create visuals presentations to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
•    Create accurate and effective technical specification drawings/production art to deliver desirable samples and ultimately customer on floor experience.
•    Brief and provide effective feedback to enable the ANKO design team to deliver on key metrics such as print, pattern and product.
•    Adhere to Kmart's Intellectual property requirements and processes.
•    Accurate and timely adherence to critical path and production processes.
•    Effective time management of workload and ability to plan and prioritise. 

 
Print and pattern

•    Identify, interpret and implement global print and pattern trends. 
•    Develop commercial brief, customer focused print and pattern that best reflects Kmart’s handwriting and taste level.
•    Create desirable print and pattern that is in line with Kmart’s ‘handwriting’ and unique to the external market.
•    Create accurate and effective production art which delivers desirable print and pattern.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:


We're looking for an experienced, collaborative and passionate designer who is obsessed with fashion retail and ideally having a strong background in womenswear and intimate’s apparel. We are looking for someone who is driven and can identify, interpret and implement trends using global trends and market to add value through design and sales in line with Target’s handwriting.
 
 Please note – that all applications must have a portfolio of relevant design work attached to be considered.

 
•    Tertiary qualification in Fashion Graphic Design,Textiles or Buying
•    Minimum 4+ years of designing experience in a fast paced preferably retail environment or supplier to DDS 
•    Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign 
•    A folio that demonstrates the ability to design product that is commercial and in line with Kmart Brand Aesthetic
•    A technical understanding of product development, fabrics, garment fit & execution
•    Experience working in a team environment
•    Solid knowledge of print types and limitations within print execution.
•    Technical skills related to the area of product development. Fabric, materials and construction knowledge.
•    Transferable skills and ability to adapt to product types for general merchandise design.
•    Ability to develop product that is appealing to the Kmart customer.
•    High level of aesthetic taste displayed in relation to colour, composition, materials, coordination and execution.
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
